Where data is stored and what is sent out

Storage locations

Item Location
Test definitions (project) echo-test/ in the repository when using a repository. For standalone projects, the default is Documents/gnosis-echo/projects/<project>
Recordings, screenshots, traces, run logs The app's settings folder (this PC only; not in the project folder)
Login states, passkeys, secrets The app's settings folder (this PC only; not in the project folder)
Crash logs The app's settings folder. Open it with Help → Open Crash Logs Folder

Open a project in a repository with Open Repository… on the welcome screen. Create a standalone project with + New Project.

Recording size

Recordings, screenshots, and traces take tens of MB per run. echo keeps a storage limit per project (200MB by default), and after each run it automatically deletes the oldest runs that go over the limit. The most recent run is never deleted. The tests themselves (definitions) are not touched.

You can change the limit in Settings → Storage. Setting it to 0 disables deletion. The same screen shows how much space is in use, and Clean Up Now reduces it to the limit. Even when recordings are deleted, the record of "when, who, and what happened" remains.

Earlier versions kept recordings in the project's runs/. When you open such a project, they are moved automatically and runs/ is removed.

What is sent out

  • Usage data and diagnostic information do not include test definitions, recordings, screenshots, target service URLs, or account information.
  • Anonymous usage data (features used, rough ranges of counts and durations, success or failure, version, OS) is designed to be sent only if you opt in under Settings → Privacy. Nothing is sent by default. Currently, nothing is actually sent even if you opt in.
  • Crash logs stay on this PC and are not sent. To report one, export it yourself and attach it.
  • When you use AI features, your request, attached materials, and the screen information the request needs are sent to the provider of your default AI connection (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Azure OpenAI).
  • To check for updates, echo asks the distribution server whether a new version is available. → Updates
